Ancient Ruins of Kauaua Pueblo, New Mexico

Coronado Historic Site

This wasn't on our itinerary but looked interesting so...

Ancient Ruins of Kuaua Pueblo

Adobe brick walls and flat roof supported by hewn logs.

Didn't see any rattlesnake's, but that's OK with me.

Kiva. Half above ground and half below. Originally used for religious rituals and spiritual ceremonies. No pictures were allowed inside the structure, but we were allowed to go inside on our guided tour.

You enter the Kiva through a hatch in the center of the roof and climb down a ladder. The inside is more spacious than one would think. Murals of animals and mythological symbols adorned the walls.  Really interesting.

We really enjoyed the tour, but it's time to get back on the road.

Traveling The Long Road - Heading North, Northern New Mexico
